Hello 2018! I’m not one for resolutions, but I do get excited to get organized in the new year. Especially when I get to start a brand new planner. I wanted to share a few ways we stay organized in our busy household. So if you’re looking for an organization refresh in the new year, here are some ideas that might help.
Daily Schedule
Whether you prefer a digital planner or paper planner, now is the time to set it up and get it ready for the year. I’m a huge fan of The Simplified Planner by Emily Ley so this year I’ll be using the weekly edition. To stay organized I take a few minutes at the beginning of every week and update our daily schedule for the entire week, as well as, add in anything that I need to accomplish for the week. The biggest advantage to doing this is that it helps me remember all the things we need to do.
Finances
We’ve loosely followed Dave Ramsay’s budget plan for the last few years. The main idea of this budget is that you live debt free and allocate every dollar that comes in. Being frugal, I didn’t actually purchase any of his books, but borrowed them all from the library. I also recently discovered the Every Dollar App which makes budgeting super simple and easy to keep up-to-date.
Command Centre
Earlier this year I shared the simple command centre we created (you can check it out here). If you don’t have one, I highly recommended setting up an area in your house that can keep the entire family organized. Our family calendar keeps everyone in the know of what’s going one, while the letter bins keep bills and forms in one spot (and not piled on the counter). If you have an in and out box, like we do, now is the time to clean them out and get them ready for a new year.
Meal Planning
Being a working mom means I need quick and easy meals in the evening when we all get home and are starving. I’m a strong believer that meals don’t need to be fancy, just have real food. Getting your meals organized at the beginning of the week means there’s no last minute scramble or drive-thru run, and it also helps organize your weekly grocery list.
