In this last instalment of our Home Tour I’m showing off our master bedroom and ensuite bathroom. These two rooms probably transformed the most in my eyes and the main transformation came via paint colour.
I’d been tossing around the idea of painting our room for a while. My current decor love is the whites and greys that are so in right now. Although the new house doesn’t include any greys in the interior decor it is very light and monochromatic. I can’t wait to share the final product with you guys. But in the meantime, once we decided our house was going up for sale, I knew that our bedroom was going to go from Caribbean blue to grey with white accents.
If you already didn’t know my love for Behr Marquee paint, let me profess it again! One coat of my light grey, called Cotton Grey, covered the mid-tone blue, which completely blew my mind.
Our comforter is from Costco and I had no intention of getting a new one, but we definitely needed some accent pieces. Can you believe we never had a bedskirt on our bed? One of those things I always meant to do but never got around to. The bedskirt and the white shams I picked up from Bed, Bath and Beyond with a 20% off coupon and the beautiful grey accent pillows were scored from Sarah Richardson’s textile line when she had a sale going on. The great thing about the throw pillows was they are specifically designed to fit Ikea pillow inserts, so it was super simple and cheap and the pillow covers were a tad on the expensive side.
We pulled out 3 shelving units from our room and it showed off the generous size of the room. After cleaning off the surfaces of the night tables and dresser, I picked up some fake greenery from Ikea that really fit well into the design theme of the room.
Our en suite looks pretty unimpressive from the bedroom but the soaker tub hiding behind the door is a bath lovers dream. I had originally painted this room an orangey-red. Very bright, very tropical, very stupid! I will never paint my own living spaces crazy bright colours again (I must be getting old). At the suggestion of our home stager we continued the grey colour from the bedroom into the bathroom, whereas I had originally planned to use the same blue-grey as the basement, but her suggestion was spot on and it looks amazing. We had the ceiling professionally painted and the bright white looks so good against the grey.
The light fixture and sink were replaced early on when we lived here and we ended up replacing the mirror over the sink as well as the old one was peeling. We also replaced the linoleum flooring with tile when we moved in 7 years ago.
I used the same towel layering system as I did in the girl’s bathroom, but chose white towels for our own washroom. The final touch was adding a few candles to the bath edge to give the space a spa like feel and voila! All these little changes really transformed this space to a beautiful retreat.
I really hoped you enjoyed our home tour. It was a lot of work getting the house ready to sell, but it really goes to show, if you put the work in and stage your home well, you’ll have people lining up to get their chance to see it.
