Well hello there! It’s been awhile, hasn’t it? The last month has been absolutely crazy but our house is finally getting into a new routine. You may have noticed a couple of things; Flowers and Faux Pas has a bit of a new look, nothing fancy, but a little prettier. Secondly, we did not have any August beauty reviews and we’ve decided to skip right over them. To be quite honest I don’t feel like you missed anything from the August Birchbox so I figured we’d just move right on to September.
September’s box was all about celebrating the Birchbox customer – “You’re Beautiful.”
So, this is my 4th month into my subscription and here’s how I feel about it so far:
- I haven’t completely fallen in love with this subscription, but I’m committing myself to a year to really give it a fair trial
- Unless these products can be found at Sephora or Shoppers Drug Mart, I’m not sure I’m likely to buy the full sized items
- Birchbox doesn’t seem to understand that I don’t like strongly scented products, even though I review all the products I receive in my box every month
This is what was inside the September 2015 Birchbox:
100% Pure Organic Coffee Bean Caffeine Eye Cream ($26)
I like a nice, rich eye cream and this one meets that need. I haven’t noticed any difference with the addition of caffeine but it feels good to wear. It’s price point seems reasonable when compared to department store brands and as an added bonus is made up of natural and organic ingredients.
Briogeo Blossom & Bloom Volumizing Blow Dry Spray ($23)
I don’t blow dry my hair too often, but I’ve started going to the gym in the mornings and that’s given me an opportunity to try this stuff out. This is probably gonna be a first for me but I love the way this spray smells. It’s fresh and fruity and my hairs smells like that pretty much all day. I haven’t noticed much difference in volume after using the product and blow drying, but it doesn’t make my hair feel worse so that’s a plus! In the end, I don’t think this is a product I’d buy for myself but it’s been fun to try out.
Japonesque Velvet Touch Eye Shadow in Shade 02 ($9)
Yay! I finally got a piece of makeup I could actually use. The colour is a beautiful taupe that can be worn daily for a natural look. It seems to be well pigmented but it’s really hard to tell because the colour is so light. I’ve seen some other ladies’ Japonesque samples and they got a duo in deeper shades of brown. Kinda wish I’d gotten that sample to try out.
Raw Spirit Fragrances Citadelle ($50/$113)
So this is one of those instances where I feel like Birchbox never gets me. Maybe I’m too picky about scents but this one missed the mark for me. It doesn’t smell terrible but it’s a musky scent and I’m not really into those kinds of perfumes. I much prefer a lighter, fresher scent.
TOCCA Exfoliante de Corpo – Bianca ($38)
This is the one product in the box where I’d say DO NOT waste your money. Not because it’s a bad product, I think it works very well, but it is absolutely overpriced. Here’s a tip, you can make your own body scrub at home with three ingredients: olive oil, lemon juice and sugar.
As usual, Danielle is also back to give us her take on her September Ipsy bag, so stay tuned for that! Hope you enjoyed this months Birchbox review and the new look of the site.
