Another month has flown right by! If you’ve been following me on Instagram, you’ll know I was fighting a nasty virus which is why I haven’t been very present on social media or posted a blog post in a few weeks, but I’m back!!!!!!!!
Today on the blog, Danielle returns as a guest blogger writing a post about her July Ipsy bag. If you missed her first post from the June box reviews, you can check it out here.
Well hello again, friends! I am thrilled to have been asked back by the best lifestyle blog out of Eastern Ontario to review my second Ipsy bag. Before I get into the July goodies, let’s review the basics:
· Ipsy is a cosmetic subscription program that costs approximately $20 per month for Canadian members.
· The first week of each month, Ipsy selects 5 products (variable sizes) based on your profile.
· Members earn points on each subscription, for reviewing products, for sharing on Facebook and for referring friends. Points can then be redeemed for sample and full sized products.
· Members can purchase full sized product off the website.
I would also like to mention that Ipsy has started a new giveaway program this month. Members snap a picture of how they wear specific products received in their bags, post to Instagram and are entered to win full sized gift sets of the highlighted product. As I mentioned in my previous review, Ipsy is very involved in social media campaigning.
Now on to the stuff we actually care about! My July bag included:
1. Nicka K New York HQ Quad Eye Shadow
2. Teeez Cosmetics Read My Lips Lipstick in Killing Me Softly (2 g)
3. Crown Brush Professional Tweezers
4. pūr~lisse pūr~delicate Gentle Soymilk Cleanser & Makeup Remover (1 oz.)
5. Coolway Beachy Salt Spray (0.5 oz.)
The first thing I want to highlight about the July haul is the bag itself. When I first subscribed, I thought to myself “How many makeup bags does one person need? What will I do with them all?” As soon as I pulled out this month’s bag from the bright pink envelope, I was splendidly surprised by how cute and vibrant it was. This one will definitely be repurposed as a summer clutch for the next backyard BBQ or drinks on a patio.
So with Ipsy, I am able to find out what I am receiving about 10 days before I get my bag. I was incredibly impressed when I saw this month’s items online and could not wait for the package to show up in my mailbox! The first item in my bag was the Nicka K New York HQ Quad Eye Shadow. This piece was the only disappointment I had this month and it had nothing to do with the product itself. My sneak peak displayed the quad including a green, a gold, a nude and a brown shadow – tailor made for me! The quad I received was cream, nude and two browns. I wasn’t unhappy by the item at all (I love my neutrals!) but was expecting something different. Either way, I have been wearing the lighter brown shade the entire work day without fail!
Another product I am actually wearing today is the Teeez Cosmetics Read My Lips Lipstick. Love slim tube lipsticks and have actually been rocking coral lips for a while now, so this was a perfect score. I have only found two (tiny) negatives so far – it is a bit drying (as I find most matte formulas are) and the coral has an orangey/red undertone opposed to a pinky/blue undertone (and who ever said orange is the new pink was seriously disturbed!).
Item number three was my first Ipsy tool, Crown Brush Professional Tweezers. I have nothing overly exciting to say about this element as they’re a generic pair of eyebrow tweezers. I did enjoy getting a tool in my bag and it’s always good to have an extra pair handy as I tend to lose these things (or my mom steals them and will never admit to it).
Next up, pūr~lisse pūr~delicate Gentle Soymilk Cleanser & Makeup Remover. Works well on my sensitive, excessively dry skin but does not take off eye makeup (which I expected). One ounce bottle I received is excellent for travel and I just happened to have an out of town wedding this weekend!
Last product in my bag was Coolway Beachy Salt Spray. I don’t know if I agree with Andrea when she received a similar product through Birch Box last month, but I wouldn’t say I am overly impressed by this one. Even though I naturally have “tousled, beachy hair”, it takes a combination of a few products to keep it that way for more than an hour and, most importantly, frizz free. After living with this hair for many years, I am skeptical of anything that claims “non-sticky, matte finished look” but am willing to give this product a shot (after the humidity of July is gone).
So, the final results: Ipsy definitely won me back this month! I learned after my first bag that rating and reviewing the products is essential as it helps to tailor the next month’s bags to your likes and needs. I would say Ipsy stepped up its game for July and am looking forwards to seeing what wonders August has to bring me.
Hope you guys enjoyed Danielle’s July Ipsy review. I’ll be following up with my Birch Box review tomorrow. Stay tuned!
