DSC_0953Hope you guys enjoyed Danielle’s Ipsy Bag review yesterday.  Today we’re looking at my July Birch Box.  I have to say I was super excited to receive this months box because according to the preview everyone was receiving a Stila Lip Lacquer and some people were getting Dr. Brandt Microdermabrasion (I was hoping I was one of them).

My first reaction upon opening my box was pure disappointment.  I had not received anything I was hoping for.  I had lost all faith in Birch Box that day, but I still went through the products and gave them fair try.  This months box was a collaboration with Best Health Magazine and included a subscription offer, but I’m not all that sure how the following products tie in to the theme:

Mereadesso Tinted All-In-One Moisturizer (Full Size $48)

I’ve never been one to use a tinted moisturizer but this one felt really nice when it was on.  Having combination/oily skin, this product didn’t cause me to break out which is always a plus.  This moisturizer uses a lot of natural ingredients and also contains zinc oxide and titanium dioxide, but makes no SPF claims.  Would I buy it?  No way!  The price is way too high for my liking, but it was nice to try.

Not Soap, Radio (Full Size $20)

I’ll be honest, I still can’t figure out what this product is supposed to be.  Online it says it’s a body wash, but the description on the bottle says its for baths or to be applied directly on the skin.  Baths?  Who has time for baths?  And it didn’t feel nice directly on my skin, so this product was the big loser this month.  Plus it was too strongly scented and if we’ve learned anything from Danielle’s and my previous reviews, we don’t do scents!

Number 4 Clarifying Shampoo (Full Size $36)

This is definitely a product I enjoyed trying out.  Having a sensitive scalp I can’t use shampoos with sulfate in them.  This one is sulfate and paraben free.  It smells lovely (not too scented) and lathers really nicely.  The drawback, it’s $36 and that’s just too much money to spend on shampoo.  I thought the $12 I normally spend was expensive.

theBalm Cosmetics Balm Desert Blush/Bronzer (Full Size $21)

I neither loved nor hated this product.  It’s actually gives a really great glow when used as a blush, but I prefer peaches and pinks for my blush so I doubt I’d use this again.  But, if you’re looking for a nice dewy, glowing blush that isn’t too dark this is a great product and fits within the price point of a lot of department store cosmetic brands.

Vasanti Cosmetics BrightenUp! Enzymatic Face Rejuvenator (Full Size $34)

This was the saving grace of the July box for me!  At first I was really disappointed that Dr. Brandt Microdermabrasion was nowhere to be seen in the box.  Back story here: The girls at Sephora must have thought they were dealing with a lady of wealth when they sent me home with a generous sample of Dr. Brandt Microdermabrasion (2 oz. retails for almost $100).  Jokes on them!  I loved that sample and used it extremely sparingly until it ran out.  Turns out, I also love this Vasanti product as well!  Not only is it a fraction of the price of Dr. Brandt, it’s made in Canada!!!!!!!!!  Needless to say, this is likely a product I will be buying.

So there you have it, all the goodies in my July Birch Box.  I still feel a little disappointed but I did keep an open mind and tried out all the products and ended up enjoying a few of them despite my initial disappointment.

As always we’d love your feedback and to hear about your favourite products.  Come find us on Twitter (@flowersfauxpas and @danyacc) and let us know what you recommend trying out!
