Recently you may have seen a large number of how-to tutorials on how to fix broken make-up.  Just as luck would have it I managed to drop my favourite blush smashing it into pieces one very early morning.  This in turn led to a very unhappy morning filled with a lot of choice words!

My sad compact after if fell.

One of the things I noticed was most of these posts didn’t include how the make-up held up after it was fixed.  Would it still look the same?  Go on the same way?  Would the colour be as deep as it was before?  Since I’d already broken my blush I had nothing to lose.

Here’s what you need to get the job done:

  • Tweezers
  • Rubbing alcohol
  • Dropper or syringe
  • Plastic wrap

First, with a  clean pair of tweezers I broke up the larger broken pieces until the blush was the consistency of loose powder.  I took my time with this step to make sure I got it all.  As a side note, as I was doing this it reminded me of The Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt where Kimmy was counting to 10 to pass time turning the mystery crank.  Really funny show on Netflix, if you haven’t seen it yet.

Next I took my syringe with alcohol and dropped about 10 drops of alcohol all over the powder until it looked slightly saturated.

Then I covered the powder with plastic wrap and used my finger to smooth the surface.  I left the compact open to dry overnight.

Results?  After a few days of use I’m really happy with this method.  The texture and the saturation of colour seems to have been maintained.  It doesn’t look the same as it once did, but once it’s on I can’t tell the difference.  So next time you have the misfortune of dropping a makeup compact this fix-it method is definitely worth trying!

p.s.  I know I’m not the best photographer, I hope to get better as time goes on.
